Former AG Troy King files to run for Congress
By MARY SELL, Alabama Daily News
Former Alabama Attorney General Troy King is running for Congress.
King, a Republican, on Thursday filed his statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission to run for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District.
The paperwork states his official intent to run for the seat and establishes a campaign committee with which he can raise campaign funds.
A phone message for King wasn’t immediately returned Friday morning.
King joins four other confirmed GOP candidates in the 2020 election:
- Dothan businessman Jeff Coleman;
- Prattville State Rep.
Will Dismukes;
- Former Enterprise State Rep. Barry Moore; and
- Montgomery electrician Bob Rogers
U.S. Rep. Martha Roby of Montgomery, first elected in 2010, announced last month she’s not seeking re-election.
King served as Attorney General from 2004 to 2010.
King last ran for Attorney General in 2018, losing a heated GOP runoff to Steve Marshall.
